Sustainability
Learn what Bron-Y-Garn Surgery is doing to be more sustainable
Our Sustainability Mission
Sustainability represents one of our core values at Bron-Y-Garn surgery. Our staff have a strong commitment to making changes and improvements, by addressing personal and collective waste production and carbon footprint.
Greener Primary Care Wales was established by the Primary Care Division, Public Health Wales in 2022. This Framework can help independent primary care contractors (general practices, community pharmacies, optometric practices and dental practices) improve their sustainability and environmental impact.
The Framework has been developed in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders and is formally endorsed by the Royal College of General Practitioners, the British Dental Association, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Optometry Wales, and Community Pharmacy Wales. Bron-y-Garn Surgery is currently working towards the Gold award as part of the Practice's commitment to sustainability.
We are currently commited as a practice to implimenting and achieving the RCGP ‘Green impact award’. This toolkit allows General Practices from across the United Kingdom to show how they are working in an environmentally and economically sustainable way.
What we are doing
Parkrun Practice
We have teamed up with local Parkrun organisers to promote the role of exercise in improving patient and staff wellbeing.
Refill station
We have agreed to register as a ‘Refill station’. Patients and staff may refill reusable water bottles therefore decreasing usage of single use drinks containers.
Active Practice (RCGP)
Research shows that doing regular physical activity can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke by as much as 35% and decrease the risk of early death by as much as 30%. As an ‘Active Practice’ we have demonstrated that we have taken a number of steps to Increasing physical activity in patients and staff by:
